At the recent World Travel Awards Africa and Middle East regional ceremony which was held in Durban, it was announced that Cape Town’s Pepperclub Hotel & Spa has been named Africa’s Leading City Hotel.

Commenting on this win, General Manager of the hotel, Efi Ella says, “We are thrilled to have been awarded this title for the sixth year running, especially when looking at the calibre of hotels – both local and international – in our category”.

The five-star hotel is based in the heart of Cape Town and offers guests 210 luxury rooms, views of the harbour, Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The property’s title means that the property will go on to the 25th annual World Travel Awards ceremony in Lisbon at the beginning of December as a nominee in the global category. The property’s fellow nominees include The Ritz in Paris, Grosvenor House in England and Belmond Miraflores Park in Peru.

“We can’t deny that it has been a challenging year for tourism in Cape Town”, Ella continues. “Bookings have decreased by 10% to 15% in the city when compared to the same period last year – predominantly attributed to international fears around the drought, with a stronger rand in the first quarter of this year also contributing to the decline. We hope that bringing this award back to Cape Town, along with our improved dam levels, will contribute to a busier 2018 / 2019 season and beyond for the industry.”

“With the award for Africa’s Leading City Hotel remaining in the city, and Cape Town recently having also been named the one of the most affordable long-haul destination for visitors from the UK – we’re keen to get the message out that Cape Town is still very much open for business!” comments Ella on the coming months.
