New General Manager remembers the casino opening
BOARDWALK New General Manager Sisulu Madondo officially takes over leadership at Boardwalk Hotel & Casino from 1 March 2026. The property announced his appointment as part of its continued focus on strong leadership and guest experience.
The seasoned gaming and hospitality executive replaces Tati Tsunke, who has returned to Johannesburg to rejoin his family.
A Strong Career in Gaming and Hospitality
Madondo brings over 26 years of experience in the gaming and hospitality industry. He began his career as a trainee gaming technician at Sun International’s Morula Sun in the North West Province.
Also, he went on to build an extensive portfolio of leadership roles. He managed the Peermont Group’s Frontier Inn and Casino, as well as the Mmabatho Palms Hotel Casino Convention Resort.
In 2022, he returned to Sun International as gaming manager at Meropa Casino in Limpopo. He later moved to Sibaya Casino in Durban, where he served as slots manager in 2024.
Over the years, he also worked at several Sun International properties, including Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein and Carnival City in Gauteng.
A Meaningful Return to BOARDWALK
The BOARDWALK New General Manager is no stranger to the property or the city of Gqeberha. Madondo played a key role in launching Boardwalk Casino in October 2000.
He shared his excitement about returning:
“I was part of the team that first launched Boardwalk Casino in October 2000 so I am very excited to be back at this remarkable property in the friendly city. I lived here for 10 years before moving back to Johannesburg, and I consider my 10 years in Gqeberha to be the best years of my youth. It is such an honour and privilege for me to now be leading the Boardwalk team.”
Focus on Guest Experience and Team Collaboration
Madondo explained that his early career focused heavily on gaming. Over time, he expanded his expertise into hospitality to prepare for a general management role.
He now plans to strengthen both areas at Boardwalk.
“During my early years I was focused on gaming but before I could take on the responsibility of being a general manager I had to learn the hospitality business too. I look forward to working closely with the team at Boardwalk to improving the gaming and hospitality experience for guests. I am also looking forward to personally meeting our Most Valued Guests over the next few weeks.”
Qualifications and Industry Recognition
The BOARDWALK New General Manager holds a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a B.Com degree. He also completed the Executive Development Programme in gaming at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2025.
His achievements reflect his strong leadership. He was named Best Performing General Manager by the Peermont Group in 2017. He also earned the title of Sun International Executive of the Year in 2023.
The appointment of the BOARDWALK New General Manager marks a significant step for the property. With deep industry experience and a strong personal connection to Boardwalk, Madondo is well positioned to lead the team and enhance both gaming and hospitality experiences for guests.
