Music remains one of Africa’s most powerful cultural and economic drivers, and this year’s Muziki Africa Programme at FAME Week Africa 2025 will spotlight the business of music on the continent. Taking place in Cape Town from 2–3 September, the programme is positioned as a hub where the industry will meet to debate trends, discuss revenue models, and build connections across music, film and television.
Headline speakers include Msaki, Danilo Acquisto, Osman Mkhondo, Thando Nyameni, Cannon Kent and Martin Myers, alongside leading publishers, attorneys, producers and rights specialists. Core topics span music rights and royalties, financial ecosystems, and cross-sector collaboration, with sessions designed to provide artists, entrepreneurs and investors with actionable insights.
The event is sponsored by the South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA). CEO Pfanani Lishivha notes:
“As Africa’s screen industries expand, so too does the need to ensure that composers, performers and producers are properly credited and rewarded. FAME Week is a powerful platform to connect creators with the opportunities, networks and rights knowledge that will allow our continent’s music to travel far and wide.”
Downtown Music Publishing Africa (DMPA), which represents leading composers across film and television, will also participate, with Managing Director Thando Makhunga emphasising the potential for African music to enhance global storytelling. KwaZulu-Natal United Music Industry Association (KUMISA) joins as a partner, with Managing Director Thando Nyameni adding:
“The music industry’s true potential lies in unlocking both its cultural richness and commercial value. We look forward to engaging with industry peers, exploring new opportunities, and amplifying KZN’s vibrant creative voice on the world stage.”
