Revenant wine inspired by Loire tradition and Waterkloof heritage

< 1 min

Taking inspiration from a legendary Loire blend, Revenant 2017 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc produced for False Bay Vineyards at Waterkloof.

The Atlantic-facing slopes of South Africa’s Schapenberg and Helderberg vineyards overlooking False Bay have long been the source of Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc grapes used in some of the Cape’s premier wines. It was a blend of these particular varieties that first focused the world’s attention on the Loire, before popularity moved to single-varietal wines.

The first white wine made by Waterkloof owner Paul Boutinot in France back in 1984 was also made with these two varietals, and so Revenant captures this tradition. The grapes are whole bunch pressed and the wine is wild fermented primarily in old barrels and concrete eggs, with 10 months of aging on the lees.
