Granny Mouse Country House and Spa in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands will be hosting a dinner to raise funds for the Heritage House Pre School in Howick, and is calling on the local community to attend and support this worthwhile initiative.
The dinner, taking place on the 2nd of April, will feature five courses, each of which will be prepared by a local chef and paired with a different wine. “Join us in a night of community outreach for one night only; all for Heritage House Pre-School,” said Sean Granger, General Manager of Granny Mouse Country House and Spa. The menu for the night is:
1st course will feature Smoked Duck Ice Cream, Orange Compote, Baby Potato Crisps with Pea Puree, Blueberries, Edible Flowers & Micro Greens prepared by Executive Culinary Artist Wayland Green (Granny Mouse Country House & Spa)
2nd course will be a Yorkshireman’s version of Samp & Beans, Wild Greens, Maas & Crispy Pulled Lambs Belly prepared by Head Chef Charlie Lakin (Camp Orchards Boutique Resort).
3rd course will feature a Trio of Heritage – Curried Line Fish served in a Pineapple Zulu Broth Crowned with a Savoury Squid Head Bobotie prepared by Chef & restaurant owner, Tim Lander (La Vita e)
4th course will be Grilled Midlands Beef, set upon a Vegetable & Potato Rosti with a Roasted Tomato & Fennel Chutney, served with Crumbed “Gourmet Greek” Black Brie, Marinated Artichokes & a Biltong Crisp, Drizzled with a Buchu Jus – prepared by Executive Chef Lorenzo Giliomee (Fordoun Hotel and Spa) (Vegetarian option available)
5th course is called “Jou Ma Se Poeding” and features Butterscotch Banana Pannekoek with Melktert Macroons, Koeksister Ice Cream & Tamatie Konfyt Brule prepared by Chef and restaurant owner, Jen Pretorius (The Farmer’s Daughter)
All proceeds will go to the Heritage House Preschool which has been running for about 3 years and welcomes children from all backgrounds that live in and around the Midlands area.
“We chose to help this preschool as we had heard about the good work that was being done internally to keep the school open. According to Karen van Lelyveld (the Owner, Principal and a teacher at the school), it has been a challenge for some parents to pay the school fees and this has impacted the cash flow of the school as rent has had to be increased amongst other things. It is for this reason that Karen and the secretary of the school have unselfishly put a portion of their salaries into paying the bills over the past 24 months, in an effort to keeping the doors open, whilst still ensuring the happiness of the children and quality of learning was not disrupted,” Granger added.
The dinner is priced at R800 per head, or guests can stay over at the Granny Mouse Country House at a cost of R3000 per room, which includes dinner.
