Singita has completed a redesign of Serengeti House, located in the Grumeti reserve in northern Tanzania. Finalised in April 2025, the update draws direct inspiration from the surrounding Serengeti landscape, featuring natural textures, local materials, and African artworks.
The project involved architectural changes intended to improve spatial flow and maximise views. Modifications include an expanded kitchen at the centre of the home and a new wellness space overlooking the plains. According to Singita’s Group Creative Director Georgie Pennington, the redesign follows the brand’s practice of gradually evolving its properties without altering their core character.
“We nudge our properties softly into a new chapter,” says Pennington. “It’s not about transforming them entirely, but rather enhancing what is already there so that each space remains in harmony with its surroundings.”
The updated interior focuses on natural materials such as linen, cane, clay, timber and grass. No synthetic materials were used. The design approach follows principles of biomimicry, which Pennington says has been central to Singita’s design ethos since inception.
Serengeti House offers four guest suites, including two in private cottages separate from the main lodge. The property also features a tennis court, extended decks, a swimming pool, and a new wellness area.
A key element of the redesign is the integration of African art and design. Pieces from various regional creators have been installed throughout the home. These include woven murals from Womancraft, beadwork by Sidai Designs, and recycled plastic installations by Dunia Design. Other contributions include lighting by Arkivio, timber work by Umdabu, cushions from Coral Stephens in Eswatini, and ceramic sculptures by Jack Fillery.
In addition to its updated design, Serengeti House offers private access to wildlife experiences, including daily game drives, walking safaris, and community visits that highlight the work of the Grumeti Fund, Singita’s conservation partner in Tanzania. The villa is accessible via a nearby private airstrip and accommodates guests of all ages.
