Just steps away from Muizenberg’s beach, the revamped Live Bait Surfers Corner is welcoming guests with a new menu of family-friendly fare and a whole new beachside look.
The seafood restaurant is part of the Harbour House Group, which has played a large part in the rejuvenation of Muizenberg’s beachfront. Their investment continues with Live Bait’s new look-and-feel, adding a welcome spot for locals and visitors to have a casual bite to eat or a glass of wine after a long walk on the beach.
“We wanted to make the restaurant a little more casual and more approachable. We’ve brought in more colour, more family-friendly interiors and added layers of décor,” explains Kobus Truter, Interior Designer for Harbour House Group, and the creative force behind the décor revamp. “It’s a conscious step away from being an upmarket seafood restaurant and about making Live Bait a place where people can come in straight off the beach, with their surfboard and sandy feet, to enjoy a good meal with family and friends. And perhaps then paddle out for another surf!”
Features of the new décor include specially designed wallpaper of coastal motifs, a quirky chandelier made from hawser rope and glass buoys, vintage photographs of Muizenberg and suspended wooden boats. There’s also a bar counter for a relaxed drink or two, a children’s area complete with beanbags and a chalkboard wall, as well as sea-facing counter seating by the panoramic windows.
The menu naturally pays tribute to the gorgeous seaside location, and the central grill has been overhauled to create a dedicated sushi counter.
“We’re giving guests a much greater variety of seafood to choose from, especially when it comes to fresh fish, and each day we’ll have three or four different line fish on the menu,” explains Ryan Daniels, Head Chef for Live Bait Surfers Corner. Live Bait is also a passionate supporter of the South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI), and all line fish sold in the restaurant is ‘green-listed’ as sustainable.
The new menu also includes a trio of Cape Malay-inspired curries, Soup of the Day, as well as Rock Shrimp Tempura with miso mayonnaise. There’s also a larger choice of platters available, with the Family Platter consisting of line fish, prawns, calamari and mussels.
Live Bait Surfers Corner is located at 70 Beach Road, Muizenberg. The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday from 12h00 to 22h00. For more information, visit www.livebait.co.za
