Meropa Hotel celebrates first anniversary

2 min read

Sun International’s Meropa Hotel opened its doors for business just over a year ago and marked a new era for the Meropa Casino and entertainment complex. The opening of the upmarket Sun Meropa Hotel in August 2017 came less than a year after Sun International and the Domba Empowerment Corporation (PTY) Ltd. announced the expansion plans for the complex.

“Turning one is a proud milestone for Meropa Hotel. Not only does it mark our first successful year of business success, but it is also marks the start of a new phase as we move forward as an established ‘citizen’ of the community. From the outset, we have known that our success and sustainability depends on our ability to constantly deliver premium and value-adding services, quality facilities, and a food and beverage offering that acknowledges contemporary dining trends.

“At the same time, we must help build and maintain a sustainable community, contribute to the local economy, and promote a healthy environment. We take these obligations to heart.

“Customers are the lifeblood of our business. Product and services innovation will receive increasing emphasis going forward to ensure that we remain relevant to our customers, and to ensure that we can continue contributing to the local economy as an active member of the tourism community,” says Meropa’s General Manager, Peter Guthrie.

Sun International’s R76-million investment in the hotel at Meropa formed part of the company’s commitment to the City of Polokwane and the Limpopo Gambling Board. The hotel development provides economic stimulus for the region, through job creation and tourism to the area.

With the largest, contemporary casino floor in Polokwane, a selection of dining and entertainment options and the beautiful hotel, Meropa is emerging as the premier leisure, business and conferencing destination in the region.

The new Meropa Hotel adjoins the casino complex and is styled in a Moroccan theme. The hotel features 60 rooms including four suites and two luxury suites. Catering to business and leisure travellers, the hotel features all amenities.

The Meropa complex, which celebrated its 16th anniversary in March this year, is an entertainment hub at the heart of Polokwane, offering an array of entertainment and experiences. The complex features the upmarket Harvest Grill & Wine restaurant; the contemporary Jembe Tavern which hosts regular live entertainment, and a well equipped and versatile conference centre.
