2 min read

Joburgers, the Stellenbosch at Summer Place event is your chance to see what all the fuss is about. Stellenbosch is going to be bringing the best of its winelands lifestyle to Summer Place in Hyde Park on the 29th of November, and it looks set to be a fantastic event.

The event, presented by Sanlam Private Wealth, is now in its 8th year and will be showcasing the art, food and wine that make the Stellenbosch area such a fantastic destination. It’s also your chance to sample the cuisine of some of SA’s top chefs, as they’ll be travelling up for the event to prepare small-plate tasting dishes, paired with the grape varieties and wine styles that Stellenbosch is renowned for.

The chefs that are going to be at the event, and the wines they’ll be pairing their dishes with, are:

  • Michael Broughton of Terroir Restaurant: MCC and Sauvignon Blanc
  • Gregory Czarnecki of Waterkloof: Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay
  • Bertus Basson, Shiraz and Pinotage
  • Lucas Carstens of Makaron Restaurant: Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Michael Deg of Equus Restaurant, red blends.

This year, the event, themed Artists, Makers & Craftsmen, will highlight the personalities behind this reputation. Alongside some of the country’s top culinary maestros, over 100 wines from 45 Stellenbosch wine farms will be featured. The top 40 entries into the prestigious 2017 Sanlam Portrait Award will also be display.

“At Sanlam Private Wealth, we are inspired by fellow masters of craft, whether it involves delectable flavours, mesmerising sounds, alluring wines or beautiful art,” says Daniël Kriel, CEO of Sanlam Private Wealth. “We are delighted to again treat guests to a celebration of masterpieces created by chefs and winemakers from the Stellenbosch region, paired with a visual feast of original artworks.”

Some of SA’s famous pot still brandies and port-style wines will also be on display at the event. In addition to regular participants including De Toren Private Cellar, Ken Forrester Wines, Waterford Estate, Spier, Alto Estate, Neethlingshof, Kanonkop, Delaire Graff Estate, Waterkloof, Kaapzicht and Mooiplaas, will be first-timers Haskell Vineyards, Stellenbosch Hills, Saxenburg Wines and Dornier Wine Estate.

“Stellenbosch at Summer Place has become Johannesburg’s must-do highlight of the year,” says Stellenbosch Wine Routes manager Elmarie Rabe. “The popularity and prominence of the event is reflected in the> high-level participation. In addition to the chefs, guests will rub shoulders with the owners and winemakers of the wine farms themselves.”

The event gets underway at 18h30. Tickets to Stellenbosch at Summer Place 2017 are available at R600 each through Ticket Pro.  Each ticket includes tasting dishes by five great chefs, canapés, a sumptuous cheese buffet, access to over 100 wines and the opportunity to meet some of South Africa’s food and wine rock stars.
