Cape Town’s restaurant scene has a new addition with the opening of Café Sofi by tashas, a deeply personal yet universal café created by Natasha and Savva Sideris of Tashas Group.
Café Sofi pays tribute to their mother, Sophia Electra, whose life was defined by beautiful contradictions – conservative yet eccentric, nostalgic yet eclectic, grounded yet endlessly curious. This spirit is woven into every detail, from the interiors to the menu.
Sophia’s passions – cakes, cats, orchids, leopard print, polka dots, and even the Pink Panther – are reflected in the design and daily specials. Her fascination with flavour lives on in dishes that balance simplicity with soul: honey butter croissants, rosti with beef ragu, tiramisu, and a steak roll designed to capture the comfort of Sunday lunch in a single bite.
“We always wanted to do something to pay homage to our mom,” explains Savva. “This is our love letter back to her.”
Unlike the larger tashas cafés, Café Sofi offers a more intimate, boutique-style experience. The space is designed to encourage guests to linger, connect, and enjoy food that feels both familiar and elevated.
More than a café, Café Sofi is a sanctuary where memory, flavour, design, and heritage intersect. It is a story told through food and interiors, a place of nostalgia and comfort that celebrates life lived beautifully.
Café Sofi is now open in Gardens, Cape Town, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
