The Taste Master SA, a popular South African cooking competition series, returned for its sixth season on Tuesday, 13 May, on SABC 2. The latest season sees the return of chef and television personality Zola Nene, who now takes the lead as head judge. A panel of guest judges, including Chef Anwar Abdullatief, Daniel Blignaut, and Nathan Clarke, will join her throughout the series.

The show, produced by Cardova Productions, features ten contestants competing in a range of cooking and baking challenges for the title and a grand prize of R200,000 sponsored by Capitec.

“I’m so excited to be guiding a new generation of culinary talent,” says Nene. “This season is not just about skills—it’s about storytelling through food. We have incredible contestants, amazing guest judges, and challenges that will truly push creativity to the edge.”

Season six marks a return to the show’s original format, incorporating both cooking and baking after two baking-focused seasons. The competition aims to test the versatility of the contestants through a variety of tasks involving both savoury and sweet elements.

Patience Stevens, Managing Director of Cardova Productions, describes the season as one of renewal: “Every season of The Taste Master SA brings something unique and inspiring to audiences across the country. This new chapter is packed with fresh faces, big flavours and unforgettable moments. We’re thrilled to bring it to life on screen.”

Yonwaba Pangeni, Head of Channel at SABC 2, adds: “We’re proud to bring The Taste Master SA back to SABC 2 for another season. This show not only entertains – it uplifts, educates, and highlights the incredible culinary talent in South Africa. It’s a beautiful blend of heart, tenacity, and homegrown excellence.”
