We’ve reached peak avocado and our passion for avo’s shows zero signs of slowing down (people are even proposing with avocados now!) As SA’s local avocado season has just begun, we thought we’d celebrate the occasion with a look at three restaurants that have taken avocado-worship to a whole new level.
The Avocado Show | Amsterdam
The avo-love is so strong at this Amsterdam restaurant that the South African Avocado Growers Association recently chose a trip to The Avocado Show as a prize for two local food media who best showcased the delicious fruit. The restaurant serves up Instagram-worthy signature dishes using sustainably-sourced avocados. You’ll find both classic and contemporary dishes on the menu, but they all have a healthy portion of avo in common. Eggs are served inside two avocado halves, both sweet and savoury pancakes come with avo, and there’s obviously a whole lot of avocado toast on offer! Avo sorbet or ice cream are available by the scoop, or you could try an avocado mousse made with dates, citrus and nuts, served up in an avocado for good measure! Click here to visit the website.

The world’s first avocado bar, Avocaderia serves up a small menu of fast casual food with a fresh and healthy slant. Naturally, avocado toast is well represented on the menu, where avo slices or mash are served up on breads such as sourdough, multigrain and pumpernickel before being topped with a variety of proteins, veg, seeds or spices. There’s salads and bowls, as well as both sweet and savoury smoothies, and on the specials list you’ll find an avocado burger, where avocado halves replace buns, and instead of a patty you’ll find smoked salmon, rocket and a herb yoghurt. And for pudding? Avo-Chocolate mousse! Click here to visit the website.

Home-grown Oh My Avo is a travelling Avocado Bar, and you’ll find it at the Old Biscuit Mill’s Neighbourgoods and the Oranjezicht City Farm markets every Saturday. Avocado halves are used to serve up creamy scrambled eggs, and slices of avocado are twirled round to create an avo rose which crowns a piece of cucumber-topped toast. The big drawcard, though, is the avo burger! Avocado halves are sandwiched together with beetroot hummus, a cheesy burger patty, rocket, cucumber and tomato, before a final sprinkling of sesame seeds. Click here to visit their facebook page.
