The Cannabis Expo will return to the Sandton Convention Centre from 30 May to 1 June 2025, with this year’s edition marking a significant moment in the country’s cannabis landscape: the re-legalisation of cannabis-infused food products.
Following recent changes in South African legislation, the use of cannabis in culinary applications has once again been approved. This development will be a key focus of the 2025 Expo, which brings together stakeholders from across the food, wellness, and cannabis industries.
A prominent feature of the event will be the Cannabis Food Market, where chefs and mixologists will showcase a range of cannabis-infused offerings — from appetisers and desserts to beverages. The market reflects a growing interest in edible cannabis and its potential role in both gastronomy and wellness.
In addition to culinary displays, the expo will host two major conference platforms: the Cheeba Cannabis & Hemp Summit, and the newly introduced International Cannabis Symposium. These sessions aim to unpack legal, commercial, and scientific developments shaping the sector in South Africa and beyond, with participation from local and international experts.
The Cannabis Expo will also include a comprehensive exhibition floor, where businesses will present products and services ranging from cultivation technology to wellness goods.
Complementing the daytime events, the Freedom Festival returns as the cultural component of the Expo. Known for blending music and social engagement, the festival has previously featured prominent DJs and live acts. The full 2025 line-up is expected to be announced in the lead-up to the event.
Organisers have indicated that attendees will receive a cannabis-infused gift as a symbolic gesture celebrating the shifting legal framework and its implications for the industry.
