La Motte South Africa’s wine tourism hotspot

1 min

Written by Nicolette Waterford.

La Motte estate is situated in picturesque Franschhoek Valley and is owned by Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, one of South Africa’s most celebrated mezzo-sopranos. Hanneli is married to the Chief Executive Officer of La Motte Wine Estate, Hein Koegelenberg and together they are blazing a trail on the South African wine tourism scene.

The wines in the La Motte portfolio are divided into three collections: the pocket friendly La Motte Collection, including a deliciously crisp 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and a seamless red blend from the 2010 vintage named La Motte Millennium.

The Classic Collection is produced to express distinctive varietal character and includes a 2010 Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a sensational 2010 Shiraz.

The Pierneef Collection is La Motte’s premium range and a tribute to South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 – 1957) a man who was world famous for depicting the beauty of the South African landscape, a very fitting nomination, as the Pierneef Collection of wines are a masterful expression of South Africa’s terroir. This collection includes the 2012 La Motte Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc, which was organically grown, the 2010 La Motte Pierneef Shiraz Viognier, that received 5 stars in the John Platter Guide as well as another delectable Rhône Blend the 2008 La Motte Pierneef Shiraz Grenache.

A visit to La Motte stimulates all the senses. Not only is the Estate steeped in history, dating back to 1695, but the joy of discovering world class wine, fine food, art, music, farm style shopping in the La Motte Farm Shop, the scenic hiking trail, intoxicating La Motte ethereal oils, created from lavandine, rose geranium, Cape Snow Bush and Buchu make it a place where you find yourself wanting to return to again and again.
