Based in the beautiful Banhoek Valley in Stellenbosch, the Institute of Culinary Arts (ICA) recently received news that it had received a second award from City & Guilds. The school, which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year, first received global recognition from City & Guilds when it was rated  as a City & Guilds Centre of Excellence – the first and only South African tertiary education facility to achieve this.

Then, a second gold medal was given to ICA’s Head of Faculty and Senior Patisserie Lecturer Chef Merizle Mitrovich – a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence as Tutor of the Year! Merizle has been part of the ICA family for 20 years.

“It is my responsibility,” says Letitia Prinsloo, ICA Principal and Founder, “to train world-class chefs that can fully stand their ground in a global culinary arena, armed with an internationally recognized qualification. Merizle’s contribution, as well as all ICA lecturing staff, influences the caliber of top rated chefs trained by the ICA, ensuring their legacies are carried forward day after day, far beyond the physical boundaries of the training kitchens and classrooms at the Institute of Culinary Arts.”
