A contemporary new restaurant has opened on Sandton’s Nelson Mandela Square. With a focus on Italian cuisine, the restaurant is the brainchild of US-based businessmen Andreas Kaiafas and Paul Lycos, and South African restaurateur Martin Louw.
Septimo is a multi-purpose space, offering a New York-style Italian deli, a chef’s table, a restaurant area and a luxe bar. Septimo’s menu offers something for everyone – on-the-go sandwiches, thin-crust pizzas, homemade pasta and a flourless chocolate torte. Heading up the kitchen is chef Nikita Zoulis. They menu has been kept small, concentrating instead on seasonal and sustainable produce. Most of the food can be traced directly back to the source, to the farm the meat came from, or the boat the fish was caught on.
Well-known architect, David Borchardt used copper and stained concrete to craft an industrial-look-and-feel, with layers of wood to soften the space. Mike and Rita Collaro, from Collaro Design, expertly added the furniture and fixtures, and the result is a space that’s both chic and inviting – perfect for a long, lazy lunch or a spot of people-watching on the square.
