Fast, healthy food seems to be in short supply in South Africa, however Krunch in Sandton is bringing a fresh approach to convenience food that puts a focus on wellness. Owner Daniel Brouze, together with his sister Kim, saw the gap a few years ago and now have two outlets in Joburg’s business hub. “A few years ago, it was pretty impossible to get healthy, fresh food while on the go. Krunch’s goal has always been to provide consumers with a nourishing fast-food option – food that is exciting and full of flavour,” says Daniel.
The first outlet launched in March 2014, and a year later a second one was in operation, proving that the team was answering the public’s demand. On the menu are salads, wraps, smoothies and juices made from the freshest ingredients. “All our food is freshly prepared every day – you can taste the difference,” Daniel continues.
The summer menu, which launched in November, features zucchini noodle dishes, acai smoothies, and breakfast bowls, which includes carob quinoa porridge and smoothie bowls. There are also stir fries, wraps, salads, and a healthy take on Eggs Benedict. “We’re all about the details – it’s the most important aspect. Every ingredient is prepared with care and attention, and that’s what sets us apart,” explains Daniel. Healthy, clean cooking methods are used, such as steaming, and in the Sandton City branch, customers can build their own wraps and salads.
“There’s no reason that food that’s good for you can’t be excellent, and enjoyable to eat,” says Kim. The menu is packed with items that cater for every lifestyle – from low carb to whole foods, superfoods or gluten free, vegetarian or vegan, juices and smoothies, or those looking for an all-rounder menu that is ‘clean’, guilt-free and tastes delicious.
