Brooklyn Brothers, an American-style diner in Pretoria, is calling on the local Pretoria community to participate in a donation drive for Uncle Ben’s Den. The Pretoria home for the elderly is in desperate need of non-perishable and essential items such as adult diapers. The community event, which is taking place on Saturday the 27^th of February, will have two collection trucks standing by to take donations of non-perishables and unwanted essential items from the public for donation to the old age home.  Tinned food, dry goods, toiletries, cleaning products and other household products are welcome.

Dischem Glenfair has come on board and for every R100 donated they will donate adult diapers to the value of R160. Brooklyn Brothers Glenfair will reward customers with an original burger or 6 piece of wings for being a part of this initiative.

Says Brooklyn Brothers Glenfair Owner, Dane Hartley. “We are appealing to local shoppers to open their hearts and help us collect as many needed adult diapers and other non-perishables by purchasing them from Dischem, who will set up a Dischem donation point in our store – or even bringing donations from home. We are more than just another restaurant, we care about our community.”

Uncle Ben’s Den – founded 25 years ago by Pastor Ben de Lange and his wife, Sharan – is a home for the elderly that provides a safe haven to those who are no longer able to care for themselves and who have no other place to go.  The home receives no funding from local government and is completely reliant on donations and the generosity of the community to cover operational costs.

“All funds raised and goods collected will be donated to the home on the day,” says Dane Hartley.
