Anthony Lourandos of Mediterranean Delicacies says, fans of Mediterranean Delicacies Feta cheese need not be alarmed by the new required label, “Modified Cheese” on their Feta packaging.
“It is still our ever-popular Danish Feta, imported by us from Denmark. However, due to strict label legislation in South Africa, which aims to protect local dairies and food manufacturers from competition with imported Feta cheeses, we are now required to label our product as ‘Modified Cheese’ even though in Denmark it is called Feta. The same legislation applies to Feta imported from Greece or anywhere else in the world,” he says.
